**Fort Worth Remembers Officer Richard D. Howell**

Richard D. Howell, known as R.D. 'Dick' Howell, served as the first City Marshal of North Fort Worth. His end of watch was marked on September 30, 1927, at the age of 59.

On April 11, 1908, while working at the North Fort Worth Police Department, Officer Howell responded to reports of a shooting nearby. In the attempt to arrest a suspect, he was shot in the thigh. The injury resulted in the amputation of his leg.

Following the amputation, Officer Howell suffered a series of strokes. Despite his health challenges, he continued to serve as a sergeant at the North Police Station. However, his condition worsened, leading to three additional strokes which ultimately resulted in his death in 1927.

The Fort Worth Police Department honors Officer Howell's dedication and sacrifice to the community with the message: #wewillneverforget.
